About Strongsoutherly Art?

Hi, I’m Andrea Hamann, a Southern Highlands Artist based near Mittagong. Strongsoutherly has always been my studio name, chosen as a word which symbolises a connection to the elements, and weather and to the antipodes. As an artist based in the Southern Highlands of NSW, I am inspired by the wild weather and moods of nature. I  relocated to the Southern Highlands after spending the 15 years in Tropical places. I work mainly in Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas or Paper. My subject matter varies, however is primarily inspired by the natural world around me, the weather and the moods of landscapes, often with a botanical focus and an occasional obsession with birds, bower bird bowers and nests. Tropical landscapes used to dominate the feel of the work, however since moving to the highlands, the earthier tones and different forms of the australian landscape have crept in.  Each painting is a mapping of memory and impression of places around me, and places I have lived.

I am also a co-creator of #Artforfloods and #Artforbales, an Australian disaster relief fundraising platform for artists and run a side business as Strongsoutherly Projects.
